Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To make it possible to exclude unstable factor of electrophoresis phenomenon by making visible area of a cell in which charged colored particles are contained different between the case where the charged colored particles are positioned on display face side and the case where they are positioned off from the display face. CONSTITUTION:When potential reverse to charge polarity of charged colored particles 6 is given to a desired individual transparent electrode 3 according to a display signal, charged colored particles 6 in a cell 7 corresponding to the individual transparent electrode 3 to which potential is gives are moved to the individual transparent electrode 3 side by electrophoresis phenomenon, and charged colored particles 6 in the cell 7 corresponding to the individual transparent electrode 3 to which potential is not given remain in a common electrode 4 side. Each cell has conical form in which sectional area becomes smaller toward the common electrode 4 side, and accordingly, when charged colored particles 6 gathered in the common electrode 4 side, the area covered by charged colored particles 6 becomes small. Accordingly, in a cell 7 in which charged colored particles 6 gathered in the individual transparent electrode 3 side, color of charged colored particles 6 is seen dominatingly, and a cell 7 in which charged colored particles 6 are gathered in the common electrode 4 side, color of a separating member 2 or the common electrode 4 is seen dominatingly.
