Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To detect relative distance from a phase difference signal obtained by dividing a reflected receive signal and making a phase comparison between an amplitude-modulated signal obtained by detecting one receive signal and an amplitude-modulated signal inputted to a modulator. CONSTITUTION:An oscillator 4 outputs a carrier signal, which is amplitude- modulated by a modulator 5 and transmitted from an antenna 1 through a directional coupler 3 and a circulator 2. The reflected receive signal from a target is divided and one signal is mixed by a receiving mixer 6 with part of the transmission signal passed through the coupler 3, thereby outputting the signal of difference frequency between the transmission signal and receive signal. Further, the other receive signal is detected by a detector 8 to output the amplitude-modulated signal, which is phase-compared by a phase comparator 9 with the amplitude signal inputted to the modulator, thereby outputting a phase difference signal. The output signal of the mixer 6 is proportional to a relative speed and the output of the comparator 9 is proportional to the relative distance, so those signals are processed by a processing part 7 to easily obtain the relative speed and relative distance.
