Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To cope quickly with the congestion of a network by applying the direct control to an originating terminal from a congestion link and controlling effectively the incoming traffic. CONSTITUTION:When the communication is performed to a station PT(C) from a station PT(A) via repeater stations PS(A), PS(B) and PS(C), the station PS(C) is congested. Under such conditions, the station PS(C) sends an RNR frame back to the station PS(B) owing to the congestion of a buffer. Thus a control part 310 of a line controller of the station PS(B) monitors the RNR signals for each fixed period and detects the continuance degree of the RNR signal through an RR/RNR detecting circuit 304. Then the part 310 informs a CPU that the signal RNR continues for a prescribed period or longer and then transmits a congestion control packet to the originating station PT(A) when the RNR frame is received continuously. Thus the station PT(A) stops temporarily the transfer of the packet and then starts it again after receiving a release frame. However the packet is transferred from the station PS(B) via a station PS(D) passing through no congested station when the congestion control packet is received again.
