Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To increase the amount of transferable charges by providing N gate means for every N successive vertical charge elements and transferring charges through vertical charge elements in N-element units. CONSTITUTION:Output terminals 41-48 of a switch part 2 are connected to respective electrodes of a vertical CCD (VCCD) and one electrode corresponds to one picture element. Gates 11, 12, 13, and 14 and gates 21, 22, 23, and 24 branch the same transfer pulses supplied from a shift register 1 and apply them to two vertical CCDs (VCCD). Further, gates 31-38 are turned on respectively to supply four-phase driving pulse trains V1-V4 to the output terminals 41-48. A voltage VDD is held at a level necessary for transfer and the gates 11, 12, 13, and 14 and gates 21, 22, 23, and 24 are turned on while the gates 31-38 are off to transfer changes through the vertical CCDs (VCCD) with pulses from the shift register 1.
