Wear test for magnetic disc medium
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To evaluate the wear characteristic of a disc surface layer accurately, by measuring wear of a magnetic disc medium at a speed in the maximum output thereof with an acoustic emission sensor fixed on an arm supporting a magnetic head while the magnetic disc medium rotates. CONSTITUTION:The relative speed between a disc medium 1 and a magnetic head 4 is determined in the maximum output of the medium with an acoustic emission (AE) sensor 5 fixed on an arm 6 supporting the head 4 when the magnetic disc medium 1 rotates. At the relative speed, the head 4 is made to slide in contact with the disc medium 1 to wear. The depth of a slide flaw currently generated on the surface of the disc medium 1 is measured with a surface roughness meter to determine wear form the average of the depth. Thus, the wear characteristic of the surface layer of the disc medium 1 can be evaluated accurately.
