Translation support device

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To translate a general input sentence into another language without giving any limitation to the input sentence by using such a means that recognizes the ambiguous and unknown points of interpretation and requests the translators to offer information in response to the type of said ambiguity and unknownness. CONSTITUTION:When a Japanese sentence is supplied from a keyboard 2, this system estimates the parallel situation of noun phrases contained in the input sentence and displays the result of estimation on a display device 3 if the parallel situation of said noun phrases has the ambiguity to ask the confirmation of a translator. When the estimation of the system is wrong, the translator deletes and adds parentheses to teach the correct parallel situation to the system. Then the system estimates the modified part of each noun in the input sentence and displays the result of estimation on the device 3 to ask the confirmation of the translator if the qualifying situation of nouns has the ambiguity. Furthermore the system gives inquiry to the translator to solve the ambiguity is remaining with the relative state of the sentence.
