X ray/electricity converter
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To make the titled device lighter and more compact, to enlarge a visual field and to prevent the occurrence of the distortion of an output picture by constituting said device of a phosphor for producing fluorescent light which absorbs an X ray and of a light detector which is made of a semiconductor material, generates an electrical signal in accordance with the fluorescence quantity (emitted) from the phosphor, possesses the same area as said material, and is installed close to the phosphor. CONSTITUTION:A single crystal material cannot realize a visual fiels as large as approximately 40cmX40cm in terms of a semiconductor light detector 13 with a wide visual field, which covers the greater part of the output surface of the phosphor 11, so an amorphous silicon material, for instance, is used. First, the fluorescent light generated from the phosphor 11 is converted into a current by a photocell 14, and accumulated in an interelectrode capacity 15. After the exposure of an X ray and the charge accumulation in an interelectrode capacity 15 are completed, a shift register 17 switches MOS switches 16 sequentially, and read out signals from each picture element in terms of a time series. It is verified that the dynamic range of approximately 80dB is obtained by this system at present, which exceeds greately the range of 60dB of standard image pickup tubes.
