Remelting and hardening treatment of cam shaft
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent the cracking of a cam shaft during use by starting remelting and hardening treatment from the cam open side of the cam part toward the cam top so as to regulate the crystal orientation of a dendritic structure in the resulting chilled part to a prescribed angle. CONSTITUTION:While rotating a cam shaft, a torch is moved back and forth in the lateral direction of the cam 1. Remelting and hardening treatment is started from the cam lift part 4 on the cam open O side toward the cam top 5, and it is continued to the cam lift part 6 on the cam close C side. The crystal orientation of a dendritic structure in the remelted and hardened surface part of the cam 1 is regulated to 2-50 deg. angle theta to the normal line N of the cam on the cam close C side.
