Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:A humectant useful as a cosmetic such as toilet lotion, cosmetic for hairdressing, etc., keeping water of skin and hair, providing them with moisture, suppressing volatilization of water, having high water absorption properties, comprising a specific alkylglucoside as a main component. CONSTITUTION:A humectant comprising an alkylglucoside such as octyl-, nonyl-, decyl-, undecyl-, dodecyl-, tridecyl-, tetradecylglucoside, a blend of octylglucoside and decylglucoside in a weight ratio of 1:1 shown by the formula I (R is 8-18C alkyl; n is 1-10) as a main component. An amount of it added is preferably 0.5-10wt%. Optionally it may be blended with another humectant such as glycerin, sodium pyrrolidonecarboxylate, hyaluronic acid, etc. EFFECT:Not absorbing water excessively in a humid state. having high moisture retention in a dry state, capable of controlling water absorption properties, and water retention by blending it with another humectant.
