Coating composition for surface modification

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To provide the titled compsn. which can readily form a hydrophilic film having excellent durability on the surfaces of moldings, by reacting water- dispersible silica sol. with an organosilane compd. and then adding an alkyl group-contg. ammonium compd. to the reaction product. CONSTITUTION:Water-dispersible silica sol. (A) and an organosilane derivative contg. 1-3 silanol groups per molecule (e.g. methyltrimethoxysilane or dimethylmethoxysilane) and/or a condensate thereof (B) are catalytically reacted. An ammonium compd. contg. at least one C4-C18 alkyl or alkenyl group (e.g. trimethyloctylammonium methylsulfate or gamma-lauroylaminopropyltrimethylammonium chloride) is added to the reaction product to obtain the desired coating compsn. for surface modification.
