Method of preventing transparent article from fogging
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: A specific inorganic-organic composite is coated on the surface of transparent articles to form hydrophilic coating films with high mar resistance, flame retardancy and antifogging effect. CONSTITUTION: (A) A water-dispersing silica, e.g., colloidal silica of 7W100mμ particle size and (B) a water-soluble or -dispersible organic polymer, e.g., acrylic copolymer, are mixed in a proportion of 30/70W95/5 A to B, based on the solid weight, and they are made to react, thus giving an inorganic-organic composite. The resulting liquid is coated on the surface of transparent articles, dried to form crosslinked films. When necessary, a silane compound, e.g., divinyl dimethoxy silane, is used as a crosslinking agent in an amount of 0.5W15wt% based on the total solid weight of A and B. EFFECT: Since the particles crosslink with the organic resin, the silica does not flow away with water and the antifogging properties is independent from the passage of time.
