Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent an error in detection due to mixed noise components from being made so as to make an accurate detection of the road surface condition by identifying a high frequency component of the vertical vibration of a car body as a component of frequency between the resonance frequency of the vertical vibration and 4Hz. CONSTITUTION:A ground clearance detector 3 in installed on the front lower section of a car body 1 facing road surfaces. The detector carries a supersonic transmitter 3a, a supersonic receiver 3b, an oscilating circuit 3c, and a wave shaping circuit 3d whih emits receiving pulse signals only when the level of the receiving signals from the supersonic receiver 3b exceeds the specified value. An arithmetic and logic unit 6 of a control unit 4 detects the road surface condition by processing the specified operation such as a filtering treatment bases on received pulse signals and interseive reflected wave signals which are provided to an interface circuit 5 from the ground clearance detector 3. Simultaneously, the arithmetic and logic unit controls damping force by controlling the variable throttle of variable shock absorbers 8a through 8d of damping force in response to the road surface condition.
