Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To enhance drivability and stability, by equipping a suspension device, whose control characteristic can be switched in three steps or more, and causing said device to select the highest control characteristic when a plurality of different control modes are generated from the output of a condition detector. CONSTITUTION:A control device provides detectors 26, 28, 30, 32 and 34, detecting a running condition of car speed, steering angle, acceleration and deceleration, brake and car height, while a detector 33 of a running road surface condition. In accordance with a detection signal of the above detectors, a control device 37 controls a control characteristic of damping force of a suspension device, including each damping force variable shock absorber 2a-2d, spring constant, roll rigidity, etc. to be switched in three steps. Here when a plurality of control mode processing results are simultaneously obtained in the control device 37 on the basis of the detection signal of the above detectors, the suspension device is controlled by preferentially selecting the highest control characteristic of those obtained results.
