Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To make it easy for a user to vary the resolution by controlling variably the dot diameter of a laser beam and a picture signal frequency and/or the scanning speed of the laser beam by control signals from a host system to vary the resolution of dot images. CONSTITUTION:The resolution is raised in proportion to the dot density. If the dot density is raised when the resolution is raised, it is preferable that the dot diameter is reduced in accordance with this rise. If the resolution is lowered, that is, the dot density is lowered, the dot diameter must be increased. The dot diameter and the picture signal frequency are changed to cope with variance of the resolution in the main scanning direction, and the dot diameter and a scanning speed Vs in the main scanning direction are changed to cope with variance of the resolution in the subscanning direction. The dot diameter, the picture signal frequency, and the scanning speed Vs in the main scanning direction are changed to cope with variance of resolutions in main scanning and subscanning directions.
