Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To extend the life of a filter material and to enhance filtering capac ity, by providing a density gradient to the filter material in the thickness direc tion thereof and making the density of the filter material high in the upstream side of the flow of a fluid to be filtered and low in the downstream side thereof and forming a low density layer to the surface of the filter material in the upstream side. CONSTITUTION:A base material 1 has a density gradient so that the voids 2 thereof become gradually large from the upstream side of the flow of a fluid to be filtered toward the downstream side thereof and a low density layer 3 having relatively large voids 2 is further formed to the surface of the upstream side. The low density layer 3 functions as a prefilter and collects large dust particles to promote the formation of a dust cake layer and, because the outlet side of the base material is coarse, the increase in pressure loss is suppressed.
