Production of modified silicone diol
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To produce the title inexpensive diol of excellent compatibility, by reacting a specified silicone diol with tetrahydrofuran and a vicinal alkylene oxide in the rpesence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:10-70 wt% silicone diol (A) of the formula (wherein R is a 1-20C alkylene, X is CH3, H or phenyl and n is an integer to give an average MW of 500-6000 to the diol), e.g., dimethylpolysiloxane dipropanol, is mixed with 20-90 wt% mixture (B) obtained by mixing 95-30 pts. wt. tetrahydrofuran with 5-70 pts. wt. vicinal alkylene oxide (e.g., ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide) and 0.01-30 wt%, based on the tetrahydrofuran (C) (e.g., a mixture of Lewis acid and a proton acid) and ppolymerized at -10-100 deg.C and 5 kg/cm<2>. The reaction product is separated and purified to obtain the modified silicone diol.
