Production of 2-oxazolidinone compound

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To produce the titled substance useful as an intermediate of polymeric materials, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, etc. in high purity, by reacting an aminoalcohol with a cyclic carbonate, and contacting the reaction product with a cation exchange resin, thereby eliminating the impurities with simple operation. CONSTITUTION:An aminoalcohol of formula I (R<1>, R<2>, R<3> and R<4> are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, or any pair of the above groups together form an alkylene group; R<5> is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, etc.) is made to react with a cyclic carbonate (preferably ethylene carbonate or propylene carbonate) preferably at 120-180 deg.C, and the reaction product is made to contact with a cation exchange resin (preferably a strongly acidic cation exchange resin having sulfon group) at 0-150 deg.C preferably by a flow contact process to obtain the objective compound of formula II in high purity.
