Electrochromic display element using lithium ions
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain an ECD having no danger of leakage of electrolyte an electrolyte type, superior high temp. durability, and a long life of repeating color development and erasion, by using lithium ions. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electrode (A) composed essentially of In2O3 is formed on a transparent base plate, such as glass plate, and a thin film (B) capable of reductive color development, such as WO3 or MoO3, is formed on (A) as the first member. A counter electrode (E) is formed on the transparent plate like (A), metallic Ni or In is vapor deposited to (E), and converted into hydroxide by the anodic oxidation method to form a thin film (D) as the second member capable of oxydative color development. A solid or semisolid gel obtained by polymerizing a liquid mixture of (1) LiClO4, LiBr, or LiBF4, (2) gamma-butirolactone or propylene carbonate, and (3) vinyl monomer and water is filled into a 5- 100mum gap between the first and the second members.
