Sealing member for fuel cell stack
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To reliably prevent any gas leakage or similar phenomenon by forming a longitudinal groove on one of facing seal surfaces and applying clamping force to a sealing member formed by fusing the extended areas of two thin fluorine resin sheets formed on a spongy rubber bar. CONSTITUTION:A longitudinal groove 10 is formed in one (9) of the facing sealing surfaces 9 and 9' of adjacent gas-separating plates 3 so that a sealing member 11 is fitted into the groove 10. The sealing member 11 is formed by coating a spongy rubber bar 12 having a diameter of 2.5-3.0mm. with two thin fluorine- resin sheets 13 and 13 of 0.05mm. thickness and then fusing the extended areas 13' and 13' of the sheets 13 and 13. After the thus formed sealing member 11 is fixed in the groove 10 of the gas-separating plate 3 to place its extended areas 13' and 13' on the sealing surface 9, clamping force is applied to the sealing member 11 by pressing the flat sealing surface 9' of the adjacent gas-separating plate 3 upon the sealing surface 9. As a result, the spongy rubber 12 is compressed and the extended areas 13' and 13' of the sheets 13 and 13 become in close contact with each other, thereby reliably preventing any gas leakage or or similar phenomenon.
