Exhaust turbine supercharger
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of supercharging, by dividing an exhaust gas inflow passage for a turbine, into an always open passage and an opened or closed control passage provided with a control valve, and by connecting the always open passage to an exhaust passage downstream to the turbine, through a by-pass passage around the turbine. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust turbine supercharger 11 comprises a turbine 12 provided at one end of a shaft 14, a compressor 15 provided at the other end of the shaft 14, a compressor 15 provided at the other end of the shaft, a housing 13 for the turbine, and a housing 16 for the compressor. An exhaust gas inflow passage 17 for the turbine 12 is composed of an always open passage 18 for low load, and an opened or closed control passage 19 which is for high load and is provided with a control valve 25. The halfway portion of the passage 18 for low load is connected to an exhaust gas outflow passage 20 through a by-pass 21 around the turbine 12. The valve element 23 of a waste gate valve unit 22 is provided in the by-pass 21. When the supercharging pressure has exceeded a set upper limit, the valve unit 22 is opened to drop the supercharging pressure below the set upper limit.
