Preparation of powdered alloy of rare earth, boron and iron for permanent magnet
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent powder or molded material from oxidation by causing a casting lump basically comprising R (one or more of rare-earth elements including Y), B and Fe occluding H2 so as to naturally disintegrate, and heating the powder thus obtained in vacuum or in the presence of Ar so as to completely dehydrate it. CONSTITUTION:A casting lump basically comprising 10-30atm% of R, 2- 28atm% of B and 65-82atm% of F is broken into blocks of a predetermined size to expose metallic surfaces thereof. These blocks are disposed in a closed container, air in which is substituted with H2. Then H2 gas of 200Torr-50kg/ cm<2> is supplied so that the blocks occlude sufficient H2 gas to naturally disintegrate. Alloy powder thus obtained is heated in vacuum or in the presence of Ar at a temperature of 100-500 deg.C to be completely dehydrated. According to this constitution, powder or molded material can be effectively prevented from oxidation, and accordingly, alloy powder for permanent magnet that would not be degraded in its magnetic properties with the progress of oxidation can be obtained.
