Preparation of silyl ester of p-halogenated phenol

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound ueful as a raw material for preparing a p-halogenated phenol suitable as an intermediate or raw material for drugs and agricultural chemicals, by halogenating a silyl ester of phenol with a specific amount of a halogenating agent. CONSTITUTION:A silyl ester of a phenol (e.g., tetra-0-glycidyl silyl ester shown by the formula II, etc.) shown by the formula I (m and n are 0-3; X is substituent group which is replaced at the nucleus at a position except para-position; X' is group bonded to Si) is reacted with a halogenating agent (preferably sulfuryl chloride, or sulfuryl bromide, etc.) in an amount corresponding to 0.8- 1.2mol, preferably 0.9-1.1mol molecular halogen based on 1mol phenoxy group, to give the desired compound.
