Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To enable the enlargement of the dynamic range for output signals by a method wherein the accumulated charges in a photo receiving accumulation part are read out at a plurality of times to a vertical charge transfer part, and the charges in the transfer part are transferred to a line directional charge transfer part during a vertical scanning period. CONSTITUTION:Shift gate pulses of various kind of drive signals necessary for the action of the titled divice are supplied at a plurality of times during a vertical blanking period TBL in the vertical period Tv. Since the shift gate opens at several times during the period TBL by several times of shift gate pulses, the readout amount of accumulation charges from the photo receiving accumulation parts 1... to the vertical charge transfer parts 2... increases, and then the dynamic range of output signals enlarges. After the charges accumulated in the accumulation parts 1... for a long period t1 are read out, they are readout at the following period t2; therefore, the total amount of readout charges increases sufficiently, and the dynamic range of output signals enlarges.
