Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To ensure a high-speed separating process for pattern elements, by separating automatically a picture containing linear and lump elements into the linear and lump elements along with a raster scan and therefore converting the picture into a data base with high efficiency. CONSTITUTION:Two types of label values concerning each picture element are stored in a flame memory 1 and scanned by a line scanner 3 synchronously with a clock generator 2. The read-out data are stored successively to line buffer memories 4 and 5. The data of these memories 4 and 5 undergo the calculation processing through picture element selectors 6 and 7-7'', comparators 9-9'' and 18, gates 10-10'' and 14, a minimum value detector 11, maximum value detectors 12, 13 and 20, registers 8, 16 and 19, an adder 15, etc. Then the label value on a picture element is decided by referring to the label value of the picture element which is set close to the corresponding picture element and already has its label value. In this case, a raster scan is carried out from an end through the other end of the picture element and in the opposite direction, and the processing is carried out by a register 21, a comparator 22 and a register 23. Then lump and linear elements are delivered to output terminals 24 and 25 respectively.
