Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:Hulls are crushed, thoroughly mixed with water, subjected to compression molding into pellets with a pellet press, cooled and dried with an air stream to produce pellets of roughage of high intake, high feed efficiency, further with reduced volume and lowered transport costs. CONSTITUTION:Rice hulls are crushed with the crusher 102 so that the original volum becomes 0.3-0.4 volume and its water absorption exceeds 200%. The crushed hulls are collected into cyclon 103 and its underflow is fed to the mixer 104 where water or an aqueous solution containing additives and others is fed from the water feeder 106 to the underflow by 10-25wt% based on the weight of the hulls. They are thoroughly mixed and subjected to compression molding with the pellet press 202 into pellets of 18-25kg/pellet hardness. The pellets are cooled in the cooler 203 as air is blown from the blower 207 to effect drying as well until the water content becomes 15wt% or lower. Thus, the process according to the present invention enables the production of roughage pellets of high feed intake and high feed efficiency, further low transportation costs by no use of binders.
