Optical coupling method between optical semiconductor element and optical fiber
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To facilitate optical coupling with good position precision and superior reproducibility by performing positioning through a reference surface of optical coupling parts from which an optical fiber projects vertically and a reference surface parallel to the light emission surface of an optical semiconductor. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber 1 is fixed while projecting by distance l vertically from the reference surface that the block 6 of optical coupling parts 10 forms. On the other hand, the reference surface (a) of a reference member 25 is formed projectingly from the light emission surface of the light emitting diode pellet 14 of a laser diode 20. When those reference surfaces are brought into contact, the distance L-l is within a permissible error range and the position adjustment of the fiber 1 in an axial direction (z) is made automatically; the reference surfaces are moved in two directions (x) and (y) perpendicular to the direction (z) to position the fiber 1 easily with high precision and good reproducibility. In this state, when a binder is injected from the injection small hole 7 of the block 6, the fiber 1 is moved only in the axial direction as the binder shrinks and fixed tightly to realize the optical coupling with the good position precision and superior reproducibility easily.
