Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To minimize a scanning area of a read part and to reduce capacity of a memory for storing the information by detecting a skew angle of character information on an object to be read, and setting a read view field of the read part by this skew angle information. CONSTITUTION:The surface of postal matter P is scanned by a pre-scanner 3, information obtained by scanning is sent to an address information detecting part 4, a coordinate of an address information area 2 on the postal matter P is detected, and its coordinate is sent to a skew angle detecting part 9. In this angle detecting part 9, a skew angle theta is calculated by lower coordinate information of address information 1 from the detecting part 4, this skew angle information is sent to a main scanner 5, and amplitude of a galva-mirror is limited by the supplied skew angle information. In this way, a scanning area of a read view field of the main scanner 5 is minimized, and capacity of a line sensor and capacity of a memory of its rear stage are minimized.
