Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To make it possible to prevent the contamination of paper due to an ink ribbon, in a printer having a ribbon feed mechanism, by a method wherein a clutch is provided between an ink ribbon conveying roller and a motor and feed operation is stopped during printing operation. CONSTITUTION:The printing to paper 5 is performed by such a mechanism that the paper 5 is inserted into a path way 9 to be set to a predetermined printing position while a plunger magnet 20 is excited to protrude a platen 17 toward the path way 9 and a carrier 11 is driven along with a printing head 12 to the direction shown by the double arrow AB to perform printing on the paper 5 through the slit 7d of a guide plate 7B. This guide plate 7B functions as a ribbon mask to prevent the contamination of the paper 5. In addition, because, in the protruded state of the platen 17, the clutch 15 is turned OFF to prevent the rotation of a motor from being transmitted to a conveyor roller 13 and the ribbon 3 is not moved even if the paper 5 is partially contacted with the ribbon 3 during printing by the slackening of said ribbon, contamination is suppressed to a min. degree.
