Vertical magnetic head

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To decrease the diamagnetic field coefficient of a main magnetic pole and to improve both recording sensitivity and reproducing efficiency of a vertical magnetic head, by splitting the tip of a main magnetic pole made of a magnetic thin film of high permeability into plural pole pieces along the direction of track width. CONSTITUTION:A vertical magnetic head records and reproduces the information to a vertical magnetic recording medium having a vertical axis of easy magnetization on it surface. With this head, a main magnetic pole 10 made of a thin film of a high-pemeability magnetic material (nickel, iron, etc.) which is provided on a substrate 11 is formed with plural pole pieces 10a of width W which are split approximately in parallel to each other in the track width direction at a space D. In this case, the width W of the piece 10a is set preferably at <=50mu and also about >=10 times as large as the space D. It is also possible to select only the tip part of the pole 10 close to a track for split into pieces 10a.
