Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain an element having a switching characteristic of sharply rising in the resistance value at a high humidity with a large mechanical strength and excellent weathering property and durability and the like by employing a filamentous or paper-like body supporting conductive fine particles on the surface of a hygroscopic fiber as detection element. CONSTITUTION:A hygroscopic fiber such as cotton and nylon is immersed into a aqueous solution of a hygroscopic adsorbent (gelatin, melamine resin or the like) and an adhesive in which conductive fine particles and metal fine particles such as carbon particles (or possible China ink) are dispersed or otherwise to form a dew formation detection element 1 supporting about 10<-5>-10<-2>mg/mm.<2> of the conductive fine particles on the surface of the fiber, which is connected to metal electrodes 2 and 2 supported with an insulator 3 using a conductive adhesive or the like to make a mini-bulb type detector. Thus, the dew formation under a high humidity releases contact between conductive fine particles to cause a sharp rise in the resistance value thereby producing and element having a switching property, particularly reversible in the relative humidity of 90-97% with a short (several sec) response time and an excellent durability.
