Preparation of graft copolymer

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a copolymer useful for paints having improved weather resistance and pigment dispersibility, etc., by polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with reactive double bonds C=C in a fluorine-containing resin having the above-mentioned reactive double bonds in the presence of the fluorine-containing resin having the reactive double bonds. CONSTITUTION:99.5-50wt% ethylenically unsaturated monomer, e.g. methyl acrylate, copolymerizable with reactive double bonds C=C in a fluorine-containing resin, e.g. obtained by reacting an alpha, beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid, etc. with a copolymer, containing a fluoroolefin, hydroxyalkyl vinyl ether and cyclohexyl vinyl ether, etc., and having preferably 0.57-100 hydroxyl number, and having 0.001-0.055mol/100g resin reactive double bonds C=C and alkoxyl or cyclohexyloxy groups, and if necessary an unsaturated amide, etc. are polymerized in the presence of 0.5-50wt% above-mentioned fluorine-containing resin having the reactive double bonds to give the aimed copolymer. The resultant copolymer is dissolved in an organic solvent and used as a paint.
