Solid-state image pickup element

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To reduce noises by a method wherein the entire body of a vertical one of vertical charge transfer elements is driven by a potential well in a solid- state image pickup element which reads successively the output of photoelectric detectors arranged in two dimensions. CONSTITUTION:The solid-state image pickup element is composed of the photoelectric detectors 111-114, 211-214, and 311-314, transfer gates 121-124, 221- 224, and 321-324, the vertical charge transfer elements 130, 230, and 330, interface parts 140, 240, and 340, a horizontal CCD500, and an output amplifier 600. A transfer gate selection circuit 800 is connected to pairs of transfer gates 121, 221, 321-124, 224, and 324. The elements 130-330 successively transfer signal charges to the CCD500.
