Novel cyclohexane liquid crystal compound

Abstract

Abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R1, R2 are 1-7C straight-chain alkyl). USE:Electro-optical display material: it is used in dynamic scattering mode display cell material or field effect mode display cell material. The mixture thereof with at least one of namatic liquid crystal compound shows a high N-I point raised above 65 deg.C, but scarcely increases its viscosity. PREPARATION:The acetylation of a compound of formula II into a compound of formula III is followed by oxidation to a compound of formula III. The product is catalytically hydrogenated in the presence of an Rh-C catalyst, then subjected to thermal rearrangement to give a compound of formula V. Further, a halogenating agent is made to react to give a compound of formula VI (X is halogen) and the reaction of trans-4-alkylcyclohexanol follows to give the compound of formula I .
