Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To print superscript and subscript letters by a method in which a flag to make printing by biasing it toward or downward direction by 1/2 line of the base line pitch is stored with letter code and another address is generated at biased printing positions. CONSTITUTION:In the case of superscript letters, non-printing code and line feed control flag (LCF) are set in the necessary unit for the line of a page memory, and letter code to be printed and the LCF are set in the preceding line. When the LCF outputted from the page memory a flip-flop 52 is set. Since output data are prohibited by an AND gate 59 during the period of subscanning line number n=0-23, non-printing is resulted. Also, during the period of n=24-47, the output of line direction subcounter 36 and block subcounter 37 are switched to a block select signal 116 and a bit select signal 110, a block select signal delayed by 1/2 line is sent out, and printing is made.
