Die for superplastic forging
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To eliminate necessity of performing forging forming in inert gas atmosphere and improve working efficiency by filling heat resistant powdery granular body which is liable to plastic flowing in a space between a steel ring that holds segmental dies made of ceramics and a die holding frame. CONSTITUTION:A die 1 is heated by applying electric current from electrodes 8a, 8b to the die and a temperature at which a material 10 shows superplastic phenomenon is maintained. A punch 11 is advanced at a specified speed, and forming is performed within the range of strain speed in which the material 10 exhibits superplastic phenomenon. Since there is powdery granular body 4 between holding frames 5, 6 and a steel ring 2, heat transmitted to the holding frames 5, 6 is very low, and heat resistance of the holding frames 5, 6 is not required. Pressure acting on the die 1 during forming is absorbed by the powdery granular body. Accordingly, large forming pressure does not act on the holding frame 5, 6. Consequently, both die material and die holding frame material do not require special regulation of atmosphere, and thus efficiency can be improved.
