Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent deviation of registering of colors and images caused in returning an image scanning system, and load fluctuation of a drum device system, and to reduce waste of power of drive systems, by executing drive of said returning action with a motor energized from an independent power supply. CONSTITUTION:An image scanning system is driven through operation of a clutch in formed movement by power of a main motor 54 of the drive system of a photosensitive drum in synchronization with rotation of the drum 28, and the return drive of the image scanning system is carried out with a return motor 58 connected directly or through another clutch with this system. An electronic controller controls both forward and backward motions of the image scanning system, and at that time, the controller deenergizes the motor 58 from start of exposure to a prescribed angle before completion of one rotation of the drum 28 to drive the scanning system, and energizes the motor 58 during the rotation of the residual prescribed angle to return the system to the standby position of scanning at or before the completion of one rotation of the drum 28.
