Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To raise the using efficiency of an ink ribbon by using a system in which a rewinding means for an ink ribbon is provided and the ink ribbon of an amount to be rewound before a carriage moves to a printing position is beforehand rewound before the beginning of printing. CONSTITUTION:A heat transfer printer to make heat-transfer printing by means of a thermal head 1 mounted on a carriage 4 while driving an ink ribbon 6 is provided with a pulse motor 11 for rewinding the ink ribbon 6. Before beginning of printing, the pulse motor 11 for rewinding the ink ribbon 6 is driven to rewind the ink ribbon of an amount to be rewound until the moving speed of the carriage 4 is synchronized with that of the ink ribbon 6. Then, the carriage 4 is driven, the pulse motor 7 for rewinding the ribbon is driven, and thereby the speeds of the carriage 4 and the ribbon 6 are synchronized with each other. Then, the carriage 4 is moved to printing positions for printing.
