Production of modified polyimide membrane

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a modified polyimide membrane having excellent separation performance, by partially crosslinking a thin membrane composed of a specified arom. polymer with an org. compd. having reactive functional groups and, if necessary, completing imide-cyclization. CONSTITUTION:A thin membrane composed of an arom. polymer consisting of 10-100% repeating unit of formulasIand/or II (wherein R is an arom. residue derived from an arom. tetracarboxylic acid component such as 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid; R' is an arom. residue derived from an arom. diamine component such as 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether; R'' is a reactive arom. residue among R' such as 3,5-diaminobenzoic acid) and 90-0% repeating unit of formula III, is partially crosslinked by using an org. compd. having at least two reactive functional groups such as hexamethylene diisocyanate or ethylene dibromide. If necessary, the imide cyclization of the polymer is conducted. A modified polyimide membrane having excellent separation performance can be obtd.
