Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve the life and resolution by providing an additional analysis rod part between an ion source and an analysis rod part. CONSTITUTION:Ions accelerated with an acceleration electrode 2 enter into an additional analysis part 7 comprising rod electrodes 7A-7D from an ion source 1. Ions is dispersed by scattering of entering direction and acceleration, collide against each electrode of the additional analysis rod part 7, and stain the electrodes. On the other hand, a voltage of U1+Vcosomegat and a voltage of -(U1+Vcosomegat) are applied between the electrodes 7A and 7B and between the electrodes 7C and 7D respectively, superposed direct current voltage U out of voltages which are applied on the electrodes of the analysis rod part 3 is in a relation U>U1, and the resolution of the additional analysis rod part 7 side is set lower comparing with the analysis rod part 3 side. Thus the stain on the additional analysis rod 7 due to generated ions will not effect on the electric field distribution in the additional analysis rod part 7.
