Dichroic coloring mater for liquid crystal consisting of 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic acid diimide derivative
Abstract
Abstract NEW MATERIAL:3,4,9,10-Perylenetetracarboxylic acid diimide derivative of the formula wherein ϕ 1 , ϕ 2 are eah alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl, heterocyclic group. USE: Dichroic coloring matter for liquid crystals, which develops a bright rose color with a high contrast. PREPARATION: 3,4,9,10-Perylenetetracarboxylic acid anhydride and ϕ 1 NH 2 or ϕ 2 NH 2 are subjected to a dehydration-condensation reaction in a solvent such as dichlorobenzene or nitrobenzene with heating. This coloring matter exhibits absorption maximum wavelengths at 530±5 and 490±5.46, and develops a bright rose color in liquid crystals such as nematic liquid crystals and cholesteric/ nematic phase transition type liquid crystals.
