Intake and exhaust for diesel engine
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To heighten the output and fuel efficiency of an engine, by providing a communication pipe and a valve between two intake pipes connected to intake manifolds and by providing a communication pipe and a valve between two exhaust pipes connected to exhaust manifolds. CONSTITUTION:Intake pipes 3a, 3b are connected to intake manifolds 2a, 2b. A communication pipe 4 and a valve 5 are provided between the intake pipes 3a, 3b. Exhaust pipes 7a, 7b are connected to exhaust manifolds 6a, 6b. A commuication pipe 8 and a valve 9 are provided between the exhaust pipes 7a, 7b. In the slow revolution of the engine under heavy load, the valves 5, 9 are closed so that the equivalent length of the intake and the exhaust pipes 3a, 3b, 7a, 7b is large. In the rapid revolution of the engine under heavy load, the valves 5, 9 are opened so that the equivalent length of the intake and the exhaust pipes is small. As a result, the intake efficiency is heightened by the effect of inertia to increase the output. The same operation is effected under the light load on the engine to lower its intake efficiency to eliminate the pumping loss and improve the fuel efficiency.
