Preparation of molecular sieve carbon fiber
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled flexible carbon fibers having improved mechanical strength, molecular sieve ability and processing capacity of a gas, etc., by melt spinning a specific depolymerized coal, making the depolymerized coal infusible or further carbonizing the infusible coal, and activting the resultant infusible or carbonized coal. CONSTITUTION: A coal is depolymerized in a hydrocarbon solvent under pressure of hydrogen, and the undissolved residue is separated and removed. The hydrocarbon solvent is then removed by the distillation to give a depolymerized coal having a softening point of 160W250°C and an atomic ratio (oxygen/carbon) ≤0.07, which is then melt spun. The resultant fibers are then made infusible or further carbonized and activated at an activating temperature of 650W850°C to afford the aimed high-performance active molecular sieve carbon fibers having improved adsorptivity.
