Supporting method for article
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To securely nip and hold an article irrespective of the shape and size of the article by utilizing a vacuum sucking force or the like in a clamping device, in the case of subjecting a relatively small-sized article to machining or the like. CONSTITUTION: Articles 2 to be machined are placed in poles of recesses 8 formed in fixed clamping plates 5. With clamping plates 4 placed on seal members 9 of a base plate 9, the side faces of the articles 2 are strongly and closely contacted by recesses 7 of the plates 4. Then, with valves V 1 WV 5 opened sequentially, and with holes 11 communicated with a vacuum generating device, the clamping plates 4 are sucked to the base plate 1 by vacuum. Accordingly, the articles 2 are strongly supported on the base plate 1. Then, the upper surface of the articles 2 thus supported are machined by a grinder or the like. After completion of the machining, the valves V 1 WV 5 are operated to open the reduced-pressure space to the atmosphere, the clamping plates 4 are removed from the base plate 1, and the articles 2 are taken out from the base plate 1.
