Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To execute transmission at an ultralow loss in the infrared wavelength band, by selecting the diameter of the hollow waveghide so that it becomes a specific value. CONSTITUTION:As for the hollow waveguide of a parallel flat plate type or a cylindrical type, etc., which is used in the infrared wavelength band, the larger its diameter 2d is, the less the transmission loss is reduced, but it is also influenced by the radius of curvature R. That is to say, the smaller the radius of curvature R is, the more the loss increases, and in case of the same radius of curvature, the larger the diameter 2d is, the more the loss increases. Accordingly, as for the total loss in the curved waveguide, the minimum value exists in some diameter. This diameter 2d is approximately (lambda<2>R)<1/3> (lambda is the working wavelength). In this way, transmission is executed at an ultralow loss by selecting the diameter 2d to size of the approximate value or so.
