Water-soluble adhesive composition
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: A water-soluble adhesive composition which does not bleed on paper and is suitable to bind paper sheets or to mend broken paper sheets in papermaking factories, comprising a carboxyl group-containing polymer and an epoxy group- containing polyether-polyol. CONSTITUTION: A water-soluble polyether-polyol is reacted with epichlorohydrin in the presence of a Lewis acid such as BF 3 and the reaction product is then subjected to dehydrochlorination in the presence of an alkaline catalyst to produce a polyether-polyol (A) into which reactive epoxy groups are introduced to an extent of 10W80mol%. 50W600pts.wt. of the polyether-polyol (A) is added to an aqueous solution of 100pts.wt. of water-soluble or water-dispersible carboxyl group-containing polymer (B) prepared by polymerizing (1) a carboxyl group-containing monomer such as (meth)acrylic acid and, if desired, (2) an ethylenically unsaturated monomer such as vinylpyridine. EFFECT: The bound parts of paper sheets do not suffer from malprinting. Adhesive properties at low temperatures are good. COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
