Preparation of improved vinyl chloride resin

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain titled resin, excellently effective for the prevention of dewdrops, by adding 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoester to vinyl chloride monomer and then subjecting the mixture to suspension polymerization with addition of a polymerization initiator. CONSTITUTION: To vinyl chloride monomer, or to a vinyl monomer mixture containing vinyl chloride monomer. about 100W20,000ppm, based on the monomer, of a compound of formulaI and/or formula II (wherein R and R' are H or 1W8C saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon residue), 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoester, is added. Then purpose vinyl chloride resin is obtained by polymerization in an aqueous medium, with addition of an oil-soluble polymerization initiator such as lauroyl peroxide and a suspension stabilizer such as a polyvinyl alcohol.
