Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To measure the oxygen concentration with high responsiveness, accurately and speedily by providing an oxygen-ion conductive solid electrolyte with electrodes for the AC voltage application. CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical solid electrolyte 1 having a bottom, which is made of yttria-added zirconia porcelain or the like, is provided with an internal electrode 2 of platinum or the like on the inner surface. Moreover, a plurality of external electrodes 3 forming an oxygen concentration cell with the internal electrode 2 and a plurality of electrodes 4 for the AC voltage application are alternately provided on the outer surface of the electrolyte 1. All of the plurality of external electrodes 3 provided on the outer surface are connected at the same electric potential, and the electrodes 4 for the AC voltage application are also connected at the same electric potential. The portion of the electrolyte 1 to contact with the exhaust gas is, desirably, covered with a metal cover 5 having gas inlet holes, and the whole is airtightly sealed in a metal case 6.
