Porous ceramic structure
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To efficiently remove soluble and solid impurities from molten metal by a method wherein active carbon particles are coated on the surface of three- demensional, net-structured, ceramic porous body having internally continuous space, and the net structure is specialized. CONSTITUTION: An adhesive is coated on the entire surface of the grating 2a of a ceramic porous body 2 so that an adhesive layer 6 is formed. Active carbon particles are coated on the layer 6 to form a three-dimensional, net structure 1 having internally continuous space 3. The structure 1 is formed to have a net diameter of 0.7W7mm, a bulk specific gravity of 0.3W0.5, voids of 80W95%, and a pressure loss of 0.2W2mm head required for a wind velocity of 1m/s to pass through 1cm thickness. Such a porous ceramic structure 1 can be used as a molten metal filter material without preheating, has a high mechanical strength, allows smooth pass of molten metal, and enables an efficient and continuous removal of soluble and solid impurities.
