Feed-through of optical submarine repeater
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To ensure a simple and assured connection between the repeater and the cable and thus increase the reliability of the transmission line, by applying the metal coating to the clad part or the plastic coat of the tail fiber and then connecting the tail fiber to the repeater circuit. CONSTITUTION:The tail fibers 2 and 2' are connected to the repeater circui 1 in the repeater pressure container 5 after piercing through the end face plates 6 and 6'. The metal coats 3 and 3' are provided at the pierced parts of the plates 6 and 6' of the fibers 2 and 2'. In addition, one or more units of partial metal coats 4-1-4-n plus 4-1'-4-n' are provided up to the outer end part, or the continuous metal coat 4 is provided to form the sealing possible part. The fiber 2 containing the metal coats 4-1-4-n, 4-1'-4-n' plus 4 is insertd into the small-diameter metal pipes 8 and 8' whose one end surface side is fixed airtight to the plates 6 and 6' each. Then the airtight sealing is secured at the position where the necessary length is secured for the connection between the plates 6/6' and the fiber 2 and between the fiber 2 and the pipes 8/8'. Thus the permeation of seawater can be prevented into the container 5 owing to the sealed area. As a result, the reliability can be increased for the transmission line.
