Sealing mechanism for butterfly valve
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain an optimal sealed condition through a minimal operating force by displacing the width of a crown circumferentially to a specific relation in a valve for which a seat ring provided with the annular crown onto which a valve plate is pressed at closing is arranged on the inside of a valve disc. CONSTITUTION: A butterfly valve includes a valve plate 1 arranged rotatably round an axis of rotation C in valve disc; the valve plate 1 is pressed by a seat ring 2 of elastic material arranged on the inside of the valve disc when the valve is opened, and thus the valve is sealed up. There is formed a crown at center of the seat ring 2, which is effective to improve a sealing performance of the valve plate 1 at closing. In this case, as will be apparent from a flat pattern of the inside of the seat ring 2 covering almost semicircumference, the seat ring crown is formed so that the width at a central point A between valve shaft positions S 1 and S 2 will be maximized and gradually tapered in the directions S 1 , S 2 therefrom.
